One of my favourite talks at Laravel Live UK earlier this year was a talk by James Titcumb about PiePHP, a project he's working on for The PHP Foundation which serves as a replacement for PECL and makes it easier to work with PHP extensions.

Since that talk, there's been a whole load of updates to Pie. James recently sat down with Eric over at Laravel News to talk about PiePHP, the history, where it's heading and more:

It's a fantastic video and having met James at a couple of conferences this year, he's a super nice guy and such a fantastic developer!

Earlier in week, I headed down to London for Laravel Live 2025. This was the conference I’ve been looking forward to since the tickets first went on sale, and honestly, the lineup did not disappoint. It’s also worth mentioning that this was my very first Laravel Live! It
